Why was a pediatrician giving COVID shots to 85‑year‑olds?

Because healing isn’t just physical.

On this teaser episode of #SkinInTheGamewithDebbieGo with Dr. New Sang, CEO & President of Sang Medical Corp and Sang Pediatrics, shares a frontlines lesson that changed how he practices medicine:
“100% of people remember how they felt. Being a doctor is about healing emotionally as well as physically.”

From comforting elderly patients who hadn’t left home in over a year to rethinking what care really means, this conversation stays with you.

Dr New Sang:
[0:02] There's studies that show that most people forget 80% of what the doctor talked

Dr New Sang:
[0:06] about when they go see the doctor. 80%? That's a lot. But 100% of the people remember how they felt. I'm going to reference a little bit back to the COVID. Here in the United States, we were giving to old people, so 75 years old and up, and frontline workers. And I was like the third person to give COVID shots in all of Fresno. How come you sang pediatrician? It was giving it to 85-year-old grandmas, great-grandmas. But I thought it was important to get us over the pandemic and get back to regular life. It was important to get the protection that the vaccines offered. Some of those patients who came in, those old people, didn't leave the house for over a year. They were so scared. They came in, they had paper towels over their hands when they opened the door. And they didn't want to touch anything. And here I am, Dr. Nguysang, pediatrician. I had to comfort all those old people. It was an experience that really connected me to humanity.

Dr New Sang:
[1:05] And part of what I'm doing now, the work, is an extension of that time period, where I really learned that being a doctor isn't just about, did you get the antibiotic right? Being a doctor is about, did you heal that patient emotionally as well as physically?
